Description: Dan Janzen draws on his experience as a missionary to South Sudan to analyze the reason why some cultures thrive and flourish and others languish in poverty. South Sudan is almost entirely dependent upon charity organizations to provide basic needs, and as a result the population has become so dependent that people move to the cities to be closer to the donated supplies and abandon farms. Dan’s plan is instead to provide agricultural training, leadership training and English as a second language to prepare the people to become self-sufficient. Also he is providing training of Christian principles of saving and tithing, and that is something that is reciprocated with a change in the culture.
