Eugenics and the Culture of Death

Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer

Description: The Darwinian influence on how we treat death is evident in our culture. The Christian worldview values life, but we are in dangerous times at the beginning of life, the end of life and throughout the course of our life due to the philosophy of the survivial of the fittest. If a person agrees to a “Do Not Resuscitate” clause in their power of attorney, this may mean that a doctor or caregiver may interpret that differently than what that person may attend. If a patient has dementia, does that mean that it is ok to drug them, then allow them to pass away while withholding food, water, air, heat or other necessities of life? Would you allow that as a mechanism for capital punishment? In capital punishment, does that hasten a prisoner’s journey to hell? Then we also need to consider what happens in abortion where a life isn’t given a chance to even start. You have war, lynching, murder, and purges all based upon eugenics, which is the principle of culling the weak, infirm or inconvenient.
