It is a mistake to tie evolutionary theory to slavery, since slavery pre-existed Lyell and Darwin. Historic slavery has been around since ancient times, and it is simply the result of mankind being cruel. Some slaveholders justified their actions believing that the white race was of the line of Adam and Eve, and that there were other races that were on the earth before that. David and Ann Harris and Merylen Pearce explore the reasons for that belief. Now evolutionary theory was an outgrowth of these false beliefs and resulted in the final atheistic notion that mankind evolved from the apes and that we are all a result of millions of years of evolution. We can lay the blame for that on non-Biblical theology.
