The Great Oxygenation Event

You wouldn’t believe what an unbeliever has to believe in order to be an unbeliever. Origin of life experiments require a primitive atmosphere without oxygen in order for amino acids, nucleotides, and proteins to evolve. The biochemical building blocks of life could not form when exposed to oxygen. But they must assume that photosynthetic bacteria evolved and produced an oxygen supply to support life.

This creates a dilemma: Oxidation is an enemy of the formation of the building blocks of life, but once that life starts up, oxidation is part of the process of life. So there must have been, according to their reasoning, a great oxidation event where an oxygen poor atmosphere evolved into an oxygen rich atmosphere.

Moreover, the origin of the oceans requires a lot of oxygen. Water is also an enemy to the formation of biochemical building blocks and the peptide bond but is essential for life. So the oxygenation event couldn’t have occurred during the chemical evolution of life, but in order for life to get started it needs water, H20, to process enzyme activity.
