Mistakes of Robert Ingersoll
Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer Description: In freshman American Thought and Language class at MSU, a subtle deconstruction of the Christian faith was taught. They presented the sermon by Jonathan Edwards Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God as a typical sermon from the Puritans. They also talked about the Salem witch trials, the Calvinist doctrine of the elect, and finally a treatise by Robert Ingersoll, famous agnostic of the nineteenth century. The nature of atheists or

Mendelian Speciation
Guests: Dr. Nigel Crompton Description: A six-year study of the genetics of peas inspired by the original study by Gregor Mendel concluded that sudden appearance of genetic information is more reasonable that accumulation of mutations over a long period of time. Dr. Nigel Cromption distinguishes characters and traits in plants and how there is a dominant wild type along with several mutations that cause certain characteristics to be expressed. The wild type has purple flower

Origin of Skunk Spray
Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer Description: I often wondered who the unfortunate graduate student was who got the assignment of determining the chemical formula of skunk spray. This was finally done in 1980, and the unpleasant odor comes from thiols, which are sulfur compounds. Though it is obvious that this is a created feature, one wonders if it was always that way or if it was the result of the fall. There is very little information about skunk evolution, and one has to

Potential Benefits of Climate Change
Guests: Dan Janzen, Doug Sharp, Rich Geer Description: Climate change is widely recognized as a global challenge with significant negative impacts, such as rising sea levels, extreme weather events, and threats to biodiversity. However, some researchers and experts have identified a few potential benefits that may arise in certain regions or sectors due to changing climate conditions. It is important to note that these benefits do not outweigh the overall risks and consequenc

Dinosaur Mummy
Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer Description: Rich and Doug discussed the differences between dinosaur mummies and fossilized remains, focusing on a recently discovered Hadrosaur (Dakota) that retains organic material and soft tissue. They explored how fossilization processes create casts rather than true mummies. Doug and Rich discussed a new scientific discovery of mummified dinosaur fossils, specifically a Lambiosaurus, found in the Wyoming Badlands near the Hell Creek For

How to Fold a Rock
Guests: Bruce Malone Bruce Malone is speaking at the West Michigan Creation Fellowship, which meets every third Tuesday at the Forest Hills Bible Chapel in Ada, Michigan. His topic is “How to Fold a Rock”, showing that the folded sediments found the the geologic record must have formed quickly and any sediments that are folded must have occurred while the sediments were pliable mud. He explains the history of how long periods of times, millions of years, became embedded in th

Which God is the Real God?
Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer The famous atheist Richard Dawkins confronts a girl who asked him why he didn’t consider the God of the Bible. He responded, “Which God should you worship?” “Jupiter, Apollo, Mars, Zeus?”That brings us to Doug’s experience as a child, wanting to know the correct God. H realized that he had to make a decision, knowing that life could not have come about by chance, like dumping pieces of puzzle on the table and expecting it to come together perf

The Chemistry of Dirt and Dirt on Mars
Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer There is a vast difference between Martian soil and soil on the earth. Martian soil does not contain organic matter and contains toxic perchlorates that interfere with the formation of life. Scientists speculate terraforming Mars into an environment that resembles earth, but that would mean transporting organic material to that planet, changing the atmosphere, warming the planet, creating an ocean, and starting life there. But if you compare t

Undersea Smokers
Underwater alkaline hydrothermal vents, also known as white smokers or white chimnies, were discovered in the 1970s. The abundance of life in these environments caught the attention of scientists and led to the proposal of new theories regarding the origin of life. One of the most plausible theories according to evolutionists was that life originated at alkaline hydrothermal vents or white smokers on the ocean floor.
In this episode, we challenge evolutionists to emulate the

Mars Rock Hints at Life
Mars Rock Hints at Life
Guests: Doug Sharp and Rich Geer
Description: NASA’s Perseverance rover has found rocks pointing to signs of past life on Mars, according to a new study. The claim is that he discovery marks the clearest signs yet of life, although researchers stress further analysis is needed.
Since landing on Mars in February 2021, Perseverance has been exploring the Jezero Crater (see path), which billions of years ago was believed to be a lake bed. Last July, the

Churches That Compromise with Evolution are Dying
This is a talk at the West Michigan Creation Fellowship about church growth and indentfies the key reasons why some churches are dying and others thrive. Jerry Bergman’s book, Evolution is the Doorway to Atheism, talks about the problem where churches ignore the challenge where the teaching of evolution causes young people to drift away from the church. This is not because the scientific evidence is compelling, but more that the evolutionary smoke screen is so pervasive and c

Adventure at Kruger National Park
In 2005, Hennie Mouton and Koos van der Westhuyzen took Doug Sharp and Rich Geer into the Kruger National Park to explore the abundant wildlife. As soon as they approached the gate, Rich spotted two elephants below the bridge and without knowing the danger, got out of the car to photograph them. At the Skukuza rest camp, Doug and Rich enjoyed South African hospitality, with ostrich and biscuits on the braai (South African barbecue) under the lapa (thatched roof shelter). The

Chlorophyll and Hemoglobin
Chlorophyll is the life-affirming pigment that lends plants, algae, and cyanobacteria their characteristic green hue and underpins the fundamental process of photosynthesis. Without chlorophyll, the transformation of sunlight into chemical energy fueling ecosystems across the planet would not be possible. The synthesis of this pigment is a marvel of cellular biochemistry, involving a series of complex reactions that bridge the worlds of molecular genetics, metabolism, and env

The Dilemma of Frozen Embryos
The central moral question regarding frozen embryos is deceptively simple: What, exactly, are they? Are they property, potential persons, or something in between? The answer shapes decisions about their use, storage, and eventual fate.
For some, embryos are pre-persons: collections of cells with the potential for life but not yet deserving of moral consideration equivalent to a child or adult. Others, grounded in religious or philosophical beliefs, consider embryos to be nasc

Spider Origin in the Sea?
A study published recently suggests that spiders and their close terrestrial relatives originated from an ocean creature called Mollisonia symmetrica, an extinct aquatic creature long believed to be the ancestor of horseshoe crabs. According to this study, the fossilized brain and central nervous system pattersn they say more closely resembled those of modern spiders, scorpions, ticks and other arachnids than today’s horseshoe crabs. According to the study’s lead author, inse
